Brazilian Alexandre Machado took on America’s Ryan Farmer and Britain’s Will Stephenson. While the weather stayed dry, Will took pole position by about 1.5 seconds over both Ryan and Alex. In the final Alex, the best starter in the world, shot off the start line like a spring. Getting out ahead of both Will and Ryan. Will managed to pull in behind Alex. Ryan settled in behind the two, hoping to draft.
Midway through the course, in the technical chicane, Ryan apexed late, and managed to overcome both Will and Alex. Ryan carried enough speed to get out in front, and stay there. Will sat back, attempting to draft Alex. As Will came into the last set of turns, he had to take a risky maneuver to overtake Alex. He thought he could also over take Ryan, but ran out of time and took second, just behind Ryan.
Despite Luis Morgrovejo’s poor showing at APAC, with his second place finish at Yaku Raymi, he is sitting on top of the South American Series.
With Ryan’s first World Cup win in IDF, he leaps over Abdil Mahdzan for first place in the WC point series. Ryan finds himself in a very good position heading into the very important European leg. Will has positioned himself well with a 2nd place finish, but he will need to rack up some wins in Europe to have a shot at the title.
La Leonera is the final race in the South American Tour. Ryan will continue on, to see if he can sweep South America.
